Ed Federici

LMFT - Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Ed is a husband of 25 years - and father of 4 great adult kids. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 30 years of experience as a mental health professional -25 of those years as an LMFT specializing in couples and family therapy as well as a blend of Gestalt, CBT, Transactional Analysis, and MBSR.

He helps clients take a deep dive into self and create lasting change. He uses his many experiences of working in: 

  • hospitals

  • residential facilities

  • community mental health agencies

  • private practice settings

  • parenting

  • marriage

as well as being an Approved Supervisor and a former Adjunct Professor at Southern Connecticut State University, to help people create changes in life that they desire.

He is passionate about teaching and Family Constellations.

~Has been in private practice since 1999 and opened Mindful Actions  in 2003. 

~Graduated with a Master’s Degree in Family Therapy in 1994 from Southern Connecticut State University

~was an Adjunct Professor at SCSU teaching Gestalt therapy

Cate Granato

LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor


Cate has been with our practice for 2 years. She is also a school psychologist at Haddam Killingworth High School. She specializes in working with kids of all ages and they LOVE coming to her. Because she works at a school during the day she only has after school and weekend hours.


She earned:

  • a bachelors in psychology from the University of Hartford in 2009

  • earned a masters in school psychology from the University of Hartford in 2011

  • earned a 6th certificate in clinical child counseling from the University of Hartford in 2012


Cate specializes in adolescent (school aged) children with concerns around anxiety and depression as it relates to every day activities as well as the academic/school environment.  

Eric Rutter

MFT - Marriage and Family Therapist


Eric is the newest member to the Mindful Actions family. He is arriving directly from working with individuals in regards to co-occurring diagnosis in a residential facility. Eric is a true believer in facilitating and sustaining change.

He earned:

  • a bachelors in Sociology and Applied Relations from Eastern Connecticut State University, after 7 resilient years, in 2013.

  • a masters in Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University in 2016. 

  • trained in Intensive In-home Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Services in 2017 from YALE Child Study Center. 


Eric specializes in working with adolescents and young adults battling mental health and/or substance abuse as it relates to living full, healthy and positive lives! Eric started his professional journey in 2015 and has molded a beautiful approach to therapy that creates a safe and loving space in the room. From this space clients can feel open to create the change they desire, in a collaborative and cohesive manner.

Kelly Horila

MFT - Marriage and Family Therapist


Kelly is a great member of our team she brings with her clinical experience with adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

She earned:

  • a bachelors in Human Development and Family Studies and a minor in Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2016   

  • a masters in Marital and Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University in 2018

Kelly specializes in the following with an integrated approach of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy along with a systemic lens that approaches all systems of the client(s) and all their contributing factors.

Practice Manager
